This section of our website aims to provide the reader with an insight into the analytical measurement capabilities of Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). Since the first demonstration of this technique in 1962, more than 3000 papers on LIBS have been published, of which more than 1000 have been published in the last five years. We have reviewed a selection of these papers to produce a quick-reference guide summarising information on Limit of Detection (LOD), measurement precision, analytical emission lines, and other relevant information. Our database includes information for each element highlighted in the Periodic Table below. To access the information, simply click on the element of interest.
This section of our website is still under construction and so is not yet complete. Over the coming months we will update the site with additional references and further information such as a summary of the LIBS experimental conditions used to generate the example spectra and links to useful websites. A new feature will soon be added which will allow the reader to "zoom in" to regions of interest in the example spectrum and also to download the spectrum in spreadsheet form.
We would also be delighted to hear from anyone who would like us to include their data. It would help us if you could summarise your published or unpublished work using the general format we have adopted in the following pages. Please contact us if you would like to discuss this.
Lastly, it is inevitable that we will have made some errors in compiling this database and so we strongly recommend that you use the summary information provided here as a guide only and not as a definitive statement on the analytical capabilities of LIBS.
We hope you find this section of our website useful.
