Contract R&D
Applied Photonics Ltd offers a full contract R&D service including:
- Experimental investigations (see our Laboratory Facilities)
- Feasibility studies
- Literature reviews and paper studies
- Prototype design, development and manufacture (see our Design & Build Services)
- Field trials of prototype instruments, devices and systems
Our team of physicists and engineers have extensive experience of industrial R&D work, particularly in our core competency area of industrial applications of Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) but also in other areas such as:
- Laser spectroscopic analysis of materials (Raman, fluorescence)
- Laser cleaning / decontamination of surfaces
- Fibre-optic transmission of Q-switched Nd:YAG laser radiation
- Design and manufacture of customised instruments and devices (custom-built products)
- Software development (LabVIEW™)
Previous examples of contract R&D work we have conducted for our customers are as follows:
- Design, manufacture and deployment of a LIBS instrument for determining the elemental composition of reactor components (Application Note 001
)
- Design, manufacture and deployment of a fibre-optic probe Laser-Induced Fluorescence Spectroscopy (LIFS) instrument for the detection of uranyl nitrate within highly-radioactive waste
- Design and manufacture of a fibre-optic Raman instrument (custom-built products)
- Design and manufacture of a heating / cooling / stirring device for use in a radioactive hot cell (custom-built products)
- An experimental investigation into the use of LIBS for rapid analysis and identification of scrap metals
- An experimental investigation into the use of LIBS to remotely determine the composition of liquid metals
- A literature survey on available and emerging technologies for remote temperature measurements
- An experimental investigation to assess the feasibility of fibre-optic laser cleaning of copper conductors within a nuclear power station turbine generator
We offer highly-competitive manpower rates for contract R&D. Please contact us to discuss your specific requirements.
